After 9 months of drama from 2 cavities, we now have 2 beautiful silver princess teeth!
Mackenzie has severe dental fear! She will not even let them clean her teeth without curling up into the fetal position. In April we were told she had 2 cavities that needed filling and sedation was needed. The catch was that she could not be sick or have any asthma issues for 7 days before. The other catch was that they only did the sedation cases once a month. Well the 1st 2 dates we were out of town for, the 2nd 2 dates she had asthma a few days before, and then the date we settled on was a big letdown. Very very long story short... I followed the preop instruction sheet and the phone call I received 2 days before the surgery and let Mackenzie eat 4 crackers and a few cashews 5 hours before the surgery and then nothing else. When we arrived they would not do the surgery because she had something to eat within 8 hours of the surgery. This made Mackenzie cry as we had been building it up for weeks. I chewed the dentist out and showed him the preop instructions which were in my hand and clearly said NPO for 4 hours before the surgery.
So we made another appointment with another dentist in our network. The x-ray revealed that she needed caps on both teeth since the cavities were along the nerve! The dentist was great, but he didn't do sedation dentistry! He thought she probably needed it as well.
So off we went to a 3rd dentist. Awesome experience!!! Kenz was completely comfortable. She let them poke around without an issue. This dentist agreed that she needed caps on both teeth. We scheduled the surgery with Demerol for sedation.
We decided to let Kevin take her to the big appointment. She seems to get more worked up around me. Kevin texted me throughout the entire surgery. She did great! No tears, no nerves, no whimper! Kevin, however, watched what they did and now has a fear of having crowns put on! Good thing we went with the sedation!!
